Is your day just full of “have to do’s” and your mind on over-drive as you try to balance your commitments and responsibilities each day? It is a wonder that we ever get time to just be still! For most, it comes at the end of the day, when they have no energy left and we end up slumped in front of the TV just to have some down time and to numb the mind for a while.
Space Within Stillness
There are incredible benefits to finding stillness that dont involve becoming a couch potato! When your head is busy and you are in constant task-mode there is no space for your body to perform some of its healthy maintenance. Your body does so much for you automatically (if you are a healthy person), you don’t have to think about your heart beating or taking your next breath. Yet, you can change the beat of your heart and the pace of your breath through the stress you experience. The good news is you can also influence them for the better as you calm, centre and find peace and stillness.
Inspiration Within Stillness
When you are filled with stress and constantly doing and thinking your way along, you leave no space for ideas and inspiration to come to you. You block the Crown Chakra from receiving Guidance. Imagine for a moment, that your mind is a filing cabinet, every drawer is open and the papers spilling all over the place. It is difficult to find what you are looking for. When you close each drawer, and are not overwhelmed by the amount of paper confronting you, you have the clarity of mind to remember where you placed what you were looking for.
5 Steps to Finding Stillness
You can become so caught up in the details of life that you lose the space that can only be found in the stillness of the mind. As you still your mind and slow your actions you create openness to receive. Easier said than done? Try these very simple techniques.
When you feel overwhelmed, decide to plod through your day. Give up racing through every minute and choose to take things step by step. While working on one thing, concentrate on that one thing only. Be mindful of slowing your pace.
Chunk Your Time
Choose to divide your time into bite-sized pieces. It can be such a pressure to look at a list of to-dos and feel like you will never get through it. By setting your timer on your mobile for 20 mins and focusing only on that 20 mins, you will be amazed at how much you achieve. Build in regular breaks and you will find stillness in your day.
Take a Breather
Between each 20 mins, get up, stretch and take a deep breath. Releasing your breath as a sigh acts as a re-set button for your whole system and prepares you for your next stint. Breathe in the moment, it is precious, it is a gift. Be mindful of your breath. Control the breath and you can begin to control the mind.
This is Your Whole Life
We tend to divide our time up into work time and home time. The truth is it is all our time. Whether at work or at home all the time is a part of your life. Be mindful that each moment is your time and you can choose. Choose to invite stillness into your day.
The sky is always above you. The Earth is always below you. Whether it be day or night you can connect and attune to all that is so much greater than all the little things that build to cause us to feel stressed.
Go out and take your awareness to the sky, the clouds, the stars, the moon, the sunshine and breathe it all in. Nothing is worth losing your peace. With stillness you will find yourself and the source of your peace.
No matter how great the storm is around you, you can stand in the eye and be in a place of peace and stillness.

Creating Your Life from the Inside Out
